Jute fabric for a better Urban Baggie
During the development of our Urban Baggie we wanted to be unique in choosing the representative material that would to be the most appropriate one for growing herbs and other plants. We have decided to use jute fabric, since it brings a natural look to the balcony garden with its lovely golden brown color in combination with plants.
Jute is one of the most affordable natural fibers and is second only to cotton in amount produced and variety of uses of vegetable fibers. Beside its natural look, jute provides better soil aeration which maintains healthy root growth and suppresses weed growth.
Moreover, the jute pot can be soaked into a water container which provides better growth conditions for certain plants, since jute holds moisture for a longer period of time. However, we should not exaggerate with this watering method and it should be used every 7 to 10 days, depending on the garden location (balcony, terrace, etc.).
The jute lasts 1-3 years, depending on the watering methods used and the exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Don’t worry if the jute gets dirty, since it can be cleaned easily. Wash it in cold water and let it dry or you can add a bit of sodium bicarbonate. However, if the stains are too annoying to remove, you can purchase a new jute baggie on our online store www.urbanplanty.com for only a few bucks.
